A son of Exceed and Excel established a record for Doncaster Bloodstock Sales’ breeze-up auction when he brought £300,000 ($483,276 in U.S. funds) April 23 in Scotland. David Redvers purchased the bay 2-year-old for Qatar Racing.
Consigned by Tally-Ho Stud, the bay colt is out of Wunders Dream (by Averti), who won the Polypipe Flying Childers (Eng-II) and Betfair.com Molecomb (gr. III) stakes in 2002. He is a half brother to the winner Spartilla (by Teofilo).
The results for the auction included a gross of £3,601,500 ($5,801,730) for the 122 2-year-olds sold. The average price was £29,520 ($47,554), and the median price was £24,000 ($38,662).
Compared with last year, when 109 horses were sold, the gross rose 13.1%, while the average advanced 1.1%. The median grew 20%.
The clearance rate was 76.3%, up from 69% in 2011.
