Jockey Matthew Straight was “awake and responsive, and complaining of left shoulder pain,” according to Keeneland medical director Dr. Barry Schumer following a spill in the fifth race April 15 at Keeneland.
Schumer said Straight was transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center for further evaluation.
Straight’s mount, Maid On a Mission, was on the lead in the 1 1/16-mile turf race when she swerved in midstretch and flipped over the inside rail.
State veterinarian Dr. Bryce Peckham reported the 3-year-old filly suffered very minor injuries and walked off the course.
Straight's twin brother, Michael Straight, was paralyzed in a 2009 fall at Arlington Park.
