Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino has changed the entry schedule for its 2012 Thoroughbred meet, which begins Friday, April 20.
With a weekly schedule of live racing Thursday through Sunday, entries will now be given a three-day or longer window for a normal racing week.
“A bigger window is helpful for horsemen,” said Prairie Meadows racing secretary Fred Hutton. “It gives trainers shipping in for our races greater time to line up vans and to let the horse come in and settle in. And it helps us get our simulcast information out. It’s been tremendously received by the horsemen.”
The schedule, which will take effect the second week of the meet, will have entries taken:
--Wednesday for Saturday
--Thursday for Sunday
--Friday for Thursday
--Saturday for Friday
Entries for opening week will remain as first scheduled, the first draw being Wednesday, April 18, for Friday, April 20. There will be a double-entry day on Saturday, April 21, for races held the following Thursday and Friday, April 26-27.
The change will also make the deadline earlier for nominating to four of Prairie Meadows’ stakes. Nominations for the Mamie Eisenhower Stakes will now close on Wednesday, May 12; The Prairie Rose and Prairie Express stakes will close on Wednesday, May 16; and the Hawkeyes Handicap will close on Wednesday, May 30.
The changes have been reflected in Prairie Meadows’ first condition book posted online at prairiemeadows.com and equibase.com
