Kenny and Sue McPeek, past winners of the Big Sport of Turfdom Award, announced the launch of their iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch application Horse Races NOW!
The app was created to provide comprehensive horse racing video and data for new fans and veteran horseplayers, according to the couple. The mobile version is being offered free for a limited time.
“Sue and I felt there was a strong need for a unique app designed to deliver live video and replays of horse races in order to get all the data into the hands of new audiences and experienced horseplayers alike,” said Kenny McPeek, a prominent trainer, in a release. “It’s like having the program to every racetrack in the palm of your hand. It alerts the user before, during, and after each race with unique sounds via push notifications. I believe fans will love it.”
Horse Races NOW! is not a wagering device and can be downloaded by all ages. It’s currently only available as an Apple product, with plans to have it available to Android users.
Features of the new iPhone and iPad application include: overnight entries; streaming live video from participating racetracks; quick results and payoffs; race replays from participating racetracks; a "select your favorites" option for racetracks, horses, trainers, and jockeys; push notifications for each favorite; and a search engine to find race replays from participating racetracks.
The app was developed and engineered by The Jockey Club Technology Services with the cooperation of Keeneland and the National Horsemen’s Benevolent Protective Association, among others, according to the release.
“We needed to create this application for the right reasons and not necessarily for monetary reasons,” said the McPeeks in a statement.
The McPeeks said their investment has been substantial and the application is offered for free. Eventually, their goal is to charge a minimal monthly fee to cover ongoing expenses and maintenance of the application. When and if profits exist, they will be shared with the industry.
“We are determined to keep pricing low so that it attracts and keeps new fans,” Kenny McPeek explained.
