Dominguez Will Go Slow Upon April 6 Return
Jockey Ramon Dominguez, injured in a spill at Aqueduct Racetrack March 18, will ride only a few horses on Friday and Saturday of each of the next two weeks, he said April 2 after talking with his doctor. Dominguez, 35, hopes to return to a full riding schedule April 18. His physician is Dr. Stephen O’Brien. “The doctor was happy with the progress I have made and the tests looked great, but he feels that we should take a conservative approach for now,” Dominguez, the two-time defending North American Eclipse champion jockey who suffered a separated collarbone in the spill, told New York Racing Association officials. Dominguez is expected to ride Alpha in the $1 million Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial (gr. I) at Aqueduct April 7; Horse of the Year Havre de Grace in the April 13 Apple Blossom Stakes (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park; and 2-year-old champion Hansen in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland April 14.
