The Bowling Green Handicap was among the four graded stakes won by King Cugat.
Millionaire King Cugat, who won or placed in 15 of 16 starts, has been retired and will enter stud for $10,000 live foal at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Bred by Dinwiddie Farm and a son of Lane's End stallion Kingmambo, King Cugat won six stakes, placed in eight others, and earned $1,293,782 for Centennial Farms (Don Little, president).

Campaigned exclusively on grass and a stakes winner all three years, King Cugat scored graded stakes wins in the Jamaica (gr. IIT) and Bowling Green (gr. IIT) Handicaps, plus the Arlington Classic (gr. IIT) and Crown Royal American Turf (gr. IIIT) Stakes. A grandson of Mr. Prospector, he ran second in five grade I events.

King Cugat's dam, Tricky Game (by Majestic Light), is a half-sister to major winner and sire Seeking the Gold (by Mr. Prospector).
