Falls of Lora will seek to emulate her stablemate Khawlah when she takes on colts in the $2 million UAE Derby Sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group (UAE-II) at Meydan Racecourse March 31. The race, restricted to 3-year-olds (NH-bred) and 4-year-olds (SH-bred) will be run at 1 3/16 miles over the main Tapeta surface.

Like Khawlah, Falls of Lora enters the Derby off a victory in the UAE Oaks Sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group (UAE-III). The daughter of Street Cry (Ire) turned in an impressive performance in the Oaks, powering home to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Mickael Barzalona will ride for trainer Mahmood al Zarooni.

Falls of Lora will be part of a three-horse Godolphin entry along with Kinglet and Helmet. Al Zarooni trains Kinglet, winner of the UAE Two Thousand Guineas Sponsored by Dubal (UAE-III) Feb. 9. The son of Kingmambo has won three of seven lifetime starts, and has earned $172,531. Frankie Dettori will ride.

Australian-bred Helmet has won six of his 12 starts, which includes victories in the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (Aus-I), Inglis Sires Produce Stakes (Aus-I), and Age Caulfield Guineas (Aus-I). Kerrin McEvoy will once again be aboard.

Aidan O’Brien will be represented by the formidable entry of Daddy Long Legs and Wrote  . Both colts made their last starts at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 5, with mixed results. Daddy Long Legs, by Scat Daddy  , was never a factor when finishing 13th to champion Hansen in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I). Prior to that race he won the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Eng-II) at Newmarket.

Wrote had much greater success at Churchill Downs last November, charging to a 2 1/4-length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IT). That race marked the first stakes win for the son of High Chaparral, who had finished third to Daddy Long Legs in the Royal Lodge. Ryan Moore will once again partner Wrote, while Colm O’Donoghue will ride Daddy Long Legs.

Trainer Graham Motion will send out Team Valor’s Lucky Chappy in the Derby. The Irish-bred colt will be trying to break through for his first stakes victory, after several narrow defeats. Lucky Chappy comes into Saturday’s contest off a narrow nose loss to Daddy Nose Best in the El Camino Real Derby (gr. III) Feb.18. Alan Garcia will ride.

Christophe Lemaire will pilot Balada Sale, an Argentine-bred filly who has won five of six career starts. The daughter of Not for Sale has wheeled off five straight victories, the most recent being an impressive 11-length win in the Seleccion-Argentine Oaks (gr. I).

Top Canadian colt Maritimer will be making his first start for his new connections in the UAE Derby. The son of Stormy Atlantic   was sold privately earlier this year to Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov, and transferred to trainer Herman Brown. As a juvenile last year, Maritimer captured both the Coronation Futurity and Display Stakes at Woodbine for trainer Sid Attard and owner Norseman Racing Stable. Glyn Schofield will be aboard for the first time.

$2 million UAE Derby Sponsored by the Saeed and Mohammed Al Naboodah Group (UAE-II, race 4, 10:25 a.m. EDT) 3yo (NH-bred) & 4yo (SH-bred), 9 1/2 furlongs (Tapeta).
