SunRay Park to Begin 2012 Season April 20

SunRay Park Racetrack has announced its Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stakes schedule for its 42-day meet, which begins April 20.

Located in Farmington, N.M., SunRay Park will run 23 stakes, including 12 for Thoroughbreds and 11 for Quarter Horses, worth more than $1.58 million in purses.

Topping SunRay Park's Thoroughbred stakes schedule are two $100,000 races -- the $110,000 Jack Cole Handicap at one mile for New Mexico-breds 3 and up on April 28, and the $100,000 San Juan County Commissioners Handicap at 1 1/8 miles for 3 and up on closing day, June 26.

SunRay Park's barn area will open on April 9. The track will be open for training beginning April 10.

Racing at SunRay Park will be conducted on a Friday-Sunday and Tuesday schedule, with special racing programs scheduled for Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) and Monday, June 25. First post will be 12:55 p.m. (MDT) on Saturdays and Sundays, and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
