A Georgia House of Representatives committee has tabled legislation to authorize pari-mutuel horse racing, meaning there won’t be a statewide referendum this year.

Georgia Public Broadcasting reported the measure failed to progress March 21.

It’s not over for the effort, which has picked up grassroots support in Georgia. The legislation outlines everything from authorizing full-card simulcasts to creating a Georgia Racing Commission, and sets aside revenue for a scholarship fund in the state.

GPB reported other forms of gambling, such as slot machines, aren’t in the mix at this time.
