Delaware Township will make his final career start in the DeFrancis Memorial Dash.
Grade I winner Delaware Township will be headed to stud following the Nov. 17 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash (gr. I) at Laurel. The 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Notebook will make his farewell appearance in the $300,000 race for Eb Novak's New Farm and trainer Ben Perkins Jr. Breeding plans have not yet been completed.
Bred by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bono, Delaware Township has captured half his 20 races and run second in four graded stakes. This year, he won the Forego Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga and his second consecutive Forest Hills Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont. In his last start, he finished 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner in the Penske Auto Center Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) in a sixth-place finish. Delaware Township, who was produced from the Sunny North mare Sunny Mimosa, has earned $816,950.
