Garrett Gomez is scheduled to resume riding March 22, according to his agent, after the two-time Eclipse Award winner was forced to abort an earlier comeback.

Gomez, 40, recovering from a broken left heel, plans to begin exercising horses March 19, agent Tony Matos said.

“He’ll ride Cambina in the Santa Ana Stakes (gr. IIT) and Hog's Hollow in the San Luis Rey (gr. IIT) next Sunday (March 25),” Matos reported March 17. “He wanted to give himself a little more time off to make sure he was 100%.

“He’s going to work horses Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and ride Thursday and Friday,” Matos added.

Gomez attempted to come back March 9 but was forced to abandon the effort after riding Miss Pippa to a fifth-place finish in the third race on the hillside turf course. He took off his one remaining mount citing pain in the heel, which was broken in a pre-post parade mishap prior to the Daytona Stakes (gr. IIIT) Jan. 8.
