The Breeders’ Cup board of directors has again approved an early foal nomination deadline that allows for a $100 discount off the $500 nomination fee for all foals nominated electronically to the program by Aug. 1.

According to a release, the board also approved a new early nomination deadline for the existing horses of racing age nomination program for the 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Both measures were adopted upon the recommendation of the racing and nominations committee.

All foals sired by properly nominated Breeders’ Cup stallions are eligible for nomination to the Breeders’ Cup program in their year of birth. Early 2012 foal nomination at $400 per foal can be made at www.members.breederscup.com or by calling 800-722-3287.

A total of 79% of all foals nominated last year were nominated through the early online nomination option.

“We continue to welcome nominators at all levels to again take advantage of the discount opportunities for foal nominations and thus reward those who commit their foals to the program earlier in the year,” said Clem Murphy, chairman of the racing and nominations committee.

The standard $500 foal nomination will remain in effect through midnight Oct. 15. Late foal nominations may be made until midnight Dec. 15 of the year of birth by payment of a one-time $1,500 nomination fee.

The board also approved a payment structure for horses of racing age not nominated to the program as foals, to join the program at a discounted rate by July 15, and increase opportunities for horsemen to have their runners compete in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. This five-month horse nomination period is available to owners of any previously non-nominated horses sired by a stallion nominated during the conception year, according to the Breeders’ Cup.

This year, 2-year-olds by a nominated Breeders’ Cup stallion can join the program for $12,000; Northern Hemisphere 3-year-olds and older for $50,000 and Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds and older for $25,000. Following the July 15 deadline, the fee for runners by nominated stallions increases to $100,000 up until the time of Oct. 22, the pre-entry deadline for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships races.

“This year’s race horse nomination program gives both domestic and international horsemen a great opportunity to nominate their racing stock at extremely favorable prices by July 15,” said Dora Delgado, Breeders’ Cup senior vice president of racing and nominations. “With an extremely high percentage of the world’s top stallions nominated to the program, we are encouraging owners to take advantage of the full benefits of the Breeders’ Cup program during the next five months.”
