Jockey Tyler Baze was “doing good” at Arcadia Methodist Hospital on the morning of March 4 after he injured himself in a fall at his home, according to his former agent and long-time friend Ivan Puhich.

The 29-year-old Seattle native has not ridden since he was given a suspension by Del Mar stewards early last September for failing to submit to a random Breathalyzer test. He was hospitalized March 1 following a spill at his Monrovia residence.

No details were released on the reason for his hospitalization.

Once one of the most promising riders in the country, Baze won the Eclipse Award as the nation's top apprentice in 2000.

Del Mar stewards cited him for failing to abide with his testing agreement and for conduct detrimental to racing after admitting he lied about his reason for evading the Breathalyzer test. His suspension required him to participate in a 30-day rehabilitation stay before being reinstated.

“When he’s discharged from the hospital, he’ll go right into rehab,” Puhich said.
