Holy Bull (gr. III) winner Algorithms  , who missed the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (gr. II) last weekend, is off of the Kentucky Derby trail after X-rays confirmed a fractured splint bone in his right front leg, according to a Feb. 28 press release.

The Bernardini   colt will ship to Ocala Feb. 29, where Dr. John Madison of Ocala Equine Hospital will perform surgery.

“We are hoping that he only requires a minimal amount of time off, but he is definitely not going to make the Triple Crown,” said trainer Todd Pletcher..
Undefeated in three lifetime starts including his five-length win in the Jan. 29 Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park, Algorithms was considered one of the top Triple Crown prospects of 2012. He is owned by Jack Wolf’s Starlight Racing.
“It is very disappointing that he will have to miss the spring classics, but we look forward to having him back in late summer or early fall,” Wolf said in the release. “This really is the best long term option for Algorithms.”
