When one sees a six-furlong work in 1:16 and a mile work in 1:43, the last trainer that comes to mind is Bob Baffert. But those were the respective works Feb. 22 for the Baffert-trained Derby hopefuls Fed Biz   and Liaison  , both of whom worked at Santa Anita.

Fed Biz’s work was the seventh fastest of the nine works at the distance. The son of Giant's Causeway   has already established his speed and brilliance in his last two starts, and now just needs to be tested for class.

Liaison’s work appeared to be just what the son of Indian Charlie needed after becoming a bit headstrong early on in his last race, the Robert Lewis Stakes (gr. II). He lost his rider in the stretch after getting squeezed back and stumbling badly. It is obvious that Baffert is attempting to harness some of that speed.

Baffert said he has no plans for either colt. Two of the possibilities are the San Felipe (gr. II) and Rebel Stakes (gr. II), but there are also stakes in New York and Florida, as well as Sunland Park.
