Numbers in most categories were up during the Oak Tree Racing Association meet that concluded Nov. 5 at Santa Anita Park. Total, in-state, and out-of-state handle were up from the corresponding meet in 2000.

Total daily average handle of $10,111,519 was up 3.6% from 2000, while daily average out-of-state handle jumped 8.3% to $3,836,521. The Southern California satellite network's daily average handle was $3,211,851 up 1.6% from last year.

On-track average daily handle was $2,348,877, about the same as in 2000.

California Cup XII, held Nov. 3, produced the largest Cal Cup total handle in history and the highest on-track attendance and on-track handle since 1992. Total handle for the program was $19,992,379.60. On-track handle was $5,428,592, and on-track attendance was a healthy 37,184.

"We had a great meet, and we are especially pleased that our handle figures were so strong in light of current economic conditions," Oak Tree executive vice president Sherwood Chillingworth said.

Oak Tree leases Santa Anita from its owner, Magna Entertainment Corp.
