Coolmore Stud has finalized its purchase of controlling interest in Fusaichi Pegasus after the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner successfully passed veterinary tests to determine his ability to stand at stud.
The Mr. Prospector colt who has earned $1.89 million this year will continue to race in the colors of his owner, Fusao Sekiguchi, while making one or two more starts before the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Coolmore, which purchased a controlling interest in Fusaichi Pegasus for an amount that gave the colt a reported value of $60- $70-million, will own the classic winner in partnership with the Yoshida family of Japan once he is retired to stand at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.
