Kim Lloyd has been promoted to general manager of Barretts Equine Sales and Fairplex Park racing.
Lloyd will oversee the operations of the sales company and the business of Fairplex Park’s live race meet, according to a press release issued Feb. 15. The former Southern California trainer assumes his new position immediately.
“Kim really knows the business. We expect him to grow our business and bring more horses to Barretts’ sales,” said James Henwood, president and CEO of the Los Angeles County Fair Association, which owns Barretts. “He is a respected horseman and will no doubt contribute to the growth of Barretts and Fairplex Park’s racing business.”
Lloyd joined Barretts in 2006 as vice president of sales. His role expanded in 2009 when he was named equine manager. His responsibilities included overseeing Fairplex Park’s annual live Thoroughbred meet during the L.A. County Fair, horse shows, and all training and satellite wagering operations at Fairplex Park. He was also in charge of recruiting for the four auctions held annually at Barretts.
In 2011, Lloyd was instrumental in implementing innovative programming that produced increased handle per race and slightly larger fields, and introduced a successful twilight racing program at the 13-day Fairplex Park race meet.
