Legislation authorizing a constitutional amendment on expanded gambling in Kentucky will be introduced the morning of Feb. 14, officials said.

A press conference will be held at 10:30 a.m. EST at the Capitol in Frankfort, according to the office of Gov. Steve Beshear. The governor, state Sen. Damon Thayer, and other legislators will be on hand to announce “introduction of a gaming amendment bill into the Senate.”

Thayer, a Republican, has indicated he would sponsor the bill, the language of which is not yet known. Beshear is a Democrat.

If eventually approved by the General Assembly, the constitutional amendment would be on the November 2012 ballot.
