The Kentucky Racing Health and Welfare Fund, the Kentucky HBPA, and the KTA have announced the formation of the Kentucky Race Track Retirement Plan. The plan was established through legislative efforts of both horsemen's groups during the 2000 session of The Kentucky General Assembly. The legislation, which took effect July 15, allows the Kentucky Racing and Welfare Fund to use a portion of its funding from uncashed pari-mutuel tickets to fund the retirement plan for the benefit of eligible Kentucky trainers, assistant trainers, and stable employees. The Kentucky Race Track Retirement Plan will be managed by the board of directors of the Kentucky Racing Health and Welfare Fund. Advertising concerning eligibility and the sign-up schedule for the plan will begin later this year, with the first sign-up period taking place in March 2001 at Turfway Park. Additional sign-up periods will take place at each operating Kentucky track and Kentucky Horse Care Center through November.
