The first foal for champion Midshipman   was born at Darley’s Stonerside division in Paris, Ky., Jan. 26. Out of the grade III-winning mare Freefourracing, the filly is a half-sister to listed winner Speedway and stakes-placed Free Brave and Ready Racer.

“Great foal. Great presence. Good legs and great muscle. A lot of characteristics of her father. Just what we hoped for,” said Stonerside farm manager Bobby Spalding.

Another foal by Midshipman was born at Cloverleaf Farms II in Reddick, Fla., Jan. 29. Owned by Cloverleaf Farms II, this filly is out of Lucky Flyer, a daughter of the stakes-winning mare Beautiful Crazy, from the immediate family of Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Lucky Lucky Lucky. Lucky Flyer also has a 2-year-old colt by Medaglia d'Oro  .

“We like our Midshipman filly," said Matt Lyons, general manager of Cloverleaf. "She has beautiful angles and looks very racy. She has good bone and substance and is just a nice foal overall."

Midshipman was awarded Eclipse Award honors in 2008 as champion 2-year-old male following victories in the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) and Del Mar Futurity (gr. I). He currently stands are Darley America for a fee of $12,500 live foal, stands and nurses.
