Benny the Bull to Return to Florida

Two-time champion sprinter Benny the Bull, who was scheduled to stand in 2012 at Tom Simon’s Vinery near Lexington, will stand instead at Vinery Florida near Summerfield, Fla. His fee is $2,000.

Nine-year-old Benny the Bull had stood his three previous seasons at stud at Vinery Florida.

Benny the Bull (Lucky Lionel—Comet Cat, by Birdonthewire) earned an Eclipse Award as leading sprinter of 2008 when he went undefeated. He won that year’s Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I), the True North Handicap (gr. II), the Smile Sprint Handicap (gr. II), and the Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes. He also was a champion in Dubai that year.

In 2007, Benny the Bull captured the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (gr. I). Overall, he won or placed in 14 of 20 starts and earned $2,353,430.

At this year’s Keeneland January horses of all ages sale, Benny the Bull had the fourth-highest yearling average among freshman sires.
