Kendall Hansen and Sky Chai Racing’s undefeated 3-year-old Hansen is still on target to launch his campaign in the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) Jan. 29 at Gulfstream Park.
The newly-named champion leads a group of nominees that includes Starlight Stable’s
Algorithms, Darley Stable’s
Consortium, Lori and George Hall’s
My Adonis, and Jacks or Better Farm’s
Fort Loudon. The Holy Bull is a one-turn mile on the dirt. It precedes the Feb. 26 Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) at 1 1/16 miles and the March 31 Florida Derby (gr. I) at 1 1/8 miles .
Algorithms and Consortium are both sons of
Bernardini that met in a 6 1/2-furlong Gulfstream allowance race on Dec. 16, finishing one-two with Algorithms taking a one-length decision. Both colts were making their second career starts after impressive debut victories in New York.
A roan/gray Kentucky homebred colt by
Tapit , Hansen went wire-to-wire to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 after a pair of double-digit victories at Turfway Park to begin his career. He has posted a steady string of workouts at Gulfstream over the past month in preparation for his return.
