Belle Strolls into 'Alarm'
Red Oak Stable's Strolling Belle is the highweight for Saturday's grade III, $100,000 Turnback the Alarm at Aqueduct. The 5-year-old daughter of Strolling Along won the Personal Ensign at Monmouth before being disqualified from second in her last outing, the Long Look at the Meadowlands, when jockey Eibar Coa struck a rival with his whip."She was ridden contrary to her running style," said trainer John Kimmel. "She's better when she has horses to run at and she's always done well around two turns at Aqueduct." Plans call for Strolling Belle to be retired to broodmare duty at the end of the year.Strolling Belle will face stiff competition from Unrestrained, who finished second behind eventual Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) victress Unbridled Elaine in the Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks in July. Edward Evans' daughter of Unbridled was well-beaten in the grade I Alabama at Saratoga before rebounding in the Summit at The Meadowlands, defeating Latour by a half length. "I think her comeback in the Summit was better than it looked," said trainer Mark Hennig. "It's not easy to come from out of it there. That's a sign of maturity."D. Wayne Lukas sends Indy Bird into the Aqueduct feature off a pair of stakes races at Philadelphia Park. She captured the $50,000 Pennsylvania Oaks before disappointing in the Cotillion when trapped inside. The Turnback the Alarm field in post position order with jockeys and weights is: Strolling Belle (John Velazquez, 118); Rochelle's Terms (Robbie Davis, 113); Unrestrained (Eibar Coa, 112); Out of Sync (Javier Castellano, 111); Resort (Edgar Prado, 113); Indy Bird (Jose Santos, 112).
