Jockey Jorge Chavez was transported to North Shore University Hospital in stable condition after he was unseated in the nightcap at Aqueduct Racetrack Dec. 4, the track reported.

Chavez was thrown to the turf when his mount, the 3-year-old filly Silver Mast, fell at the quarter pole of the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight event as she was advancing at mid-pack on the outside. Chavez, a 50-year-old native of Peru, was complaining of left shoulder pain, according to New York Racing Association First Aid.

Silver Mast stood after the incident and was walked off the track.

Chavez, who has amassed 4,526 victories in North America since arriving in 1988, won the 2001 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) aboard Monarchos  . The jockey sustained a broken back in a 2003 spill during the Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park.
