Discreet Dancer, a first-time starter for Todd Pletcher, pulled away to a 9 3/4-length triumph opening day at Gulfstream Park Dec. 3, setting the 5 1/2-furlong track record in the process.

A homebred of E Paul Robsham Stable, the 2-year-old son of Discreet Cat   closely stalked the early pace in race 3 before powering to a convincing victory in 1:02.34, eclipsing Paizano’s 2010 clocking of 1:03 (VIDEO).

“Discreet Dancer has trained very professionally for his debut, so while not surprised by performance we are impressed,” said Pletcher via text.

The chestnut colt also impressed jockey Javier Castellano with his professional performance.

“He’s a really nice horse. Everything he does, he does it the right way. Today, he was amazing. He does it so easy. He galloped out great past the wire. I didn’t ask him at all today,” Castellano said.

Discreet Dancer, the 7-10 favorite in a field of nine juveniles, set the record after swift fractions of :22.12, :44.99, and :56.46.

He is out of the Gone West mare West Side Dancer.
