Jockey Russell Baze, racing's all-time leader with 11,415 career victories, escaped serious injury in the sixth race at Golden Gate Fields Nov, 27. His mount, Reinvent, crashed through the breakaway inner rail on the turf course while leading in mid-stretch.

Reinvent stayed on his feet throughout the ordeal and appeared to come out of the accident relatively unscathed. Baze reportedly sustained a bruised right thumb.

Baze, who had two winners earlier on the card, came back to ride the seventh race, finishing sixth aboard Lady Wiggles. He opted to sit out the eighth and ninth races.

The 53-year-old Baze won back-to-back races, taking the third with Perfect Fashion ($4.80) and the fourth with City Expenses ($4.20). Baze is the leading rider at Golden Gate's fall meeting with 36 victories.
