Jockey Daniel Vergara escaped serious injury after his mount broke down in the turn and unseated him during the fourth race Nov. 26 at Hollywood Park.
Vergara was transported to nearby Centinela Hospital Medical Center. He was later released with bruises to his left hip and right leg. The Mexican-born Vergara, 36, has won 77 races this year.
Waltzing With Blue, Vergara’s mount and the 2-1 favorite in the $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up on the turf, had to be vanned off the track. Peachtree Stable’s 5-year-old Malibu Moon gelding, was later euthanized after suffering injury to his left front leg.
