Tattersalls Foal Sale Opens With Increases

The Tattersalls December foal sale opened Nov. 23 in England with increases of 17.8% in the number of horses sold, 16.1% in gross, and 7.8% in median price from a year ago. The average price declined 1.5%.

A colt by Kyllachy topped the first session, bringing 55,000 guineas ($90,337 in U.S. funds). Redpender Stud’s Jimmy Murphy purchased the bay weanling from Stringston Farm.

The colt is out of the Selkirk mare Fine Lady, who finished second twice and third once in seven career races. He is a half brother to the winner Visionaria (by Byron).

A KyllachyCelestial Princess colt brought the second-highest price of 50,000 guineas ($82,125). Five Star Bloodstock bought him from Trickledown Stud.

The opening session’s results incuded a gross of 1,428,500 guineas ($2,346,299) for the 152 weanlings that were sold. The average was 9,398 guineas ($15,436), and the median was 6,250 guineas ($10,266).

The clearance rate was 65%, up from 61.4% in 2010.
