Shared Account, winner of last year’s Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT) and seventh in this year’s running in what proved to be her final start, has been retired from racing. The 5-year-old Pleasantly Perfect mare is scheduled to be sent to owner Kevin Plank’s Sagamore Farm near Glyndon, Md. Breeding plans are undecided.

“She came out of her last race very well and without any problems,” said trainer Graham Motion. “We toyed with the idea of racing her next year but decided she had done enough.”

Shared Account’s triumph in last year’s Filly & Mare Turf came at the expense of leading English racemare Midday, who had won the 2009 edition. Shared Account beat odds-on favorite Midday by a neck at 46-1. Earlier in 2010 Shared Account had won the All Along Stakes (gr. IIIT) and was second in the Diana Stakes (gr. IT) at Saratoga.

Shared Account made just two other starts this year. She opened the season with a fourth-place finish in the Gallorette Handicap (gr. IIIT) in May and ran sixth in the Canadian Stakes (Can-IIT) in September.

At 3 in 2009, Shared Account won the Lake Placid Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga and placed in four stakes including the Garden City Stakes (gr. IT) and the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (gr. IT). She was retired with 10 top-two finishes from 18 starts and earnings of $1,649,427.

Shared Account was bought by Bob Feld, agent for Sagamore, for $170,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale from Lane’s End, agent. At this year’s Keeneland September sale, Shared Account’s half sister by Bernardini   sold for $1.2 million.

Bred in Kentucky by William A. Carl, Shared Account is out of the winning Smart Strike   mare Silk n’ Sapphire, who is a half sister to grade II stakes winner/producer Sapphire n' Silk and grade III winner Golden Itiz.
