Seth Hancock to Receive Warner L. Jones Award

Claiborne Farm’s Seth Hancock will be honored by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners, Inc. as the 2011 recipient of its annual “Warner L. Jones Jr. Horseman of the Year Award” at its awards dinner Saturday, Nov. 19.
Tickets for KTO’s 24th annual awards dinner, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (EST) at the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Ky., are $125 per ticket or $1,000 for a table of eight. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, Nov. 16.
According to a release, the award is presented “to a member of the racing industry who displays the spirit and passion for the sport exhibited by the late Warner L. Jones Jr.” A prominent Thoroughbred owner and breeder, Jones operated Hermitage Farm and was a former chairman of the board of Churchill Downs.
Claiborne Farm, the historic Paris, Ky. racing and breeding farm, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010 with a victory in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) by its homebred Blame . In addition to his duties at Claiborne, Hancock also serves as a director at Keeneland, is a member of The Jockey Club, serves as vice chairman of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders’ Association and is a member of the American Graded Stakes Committee. He served on the board of directors of Churchill Downs from 1973 to 2008.
