Hungry Island is the 120-pound high weight in the Mrs. Revere Stakes.
The rapidly improving Hungry Island, who gave a good showing in her grade I debut last out, is one of several top contenders in a well-matched field of 12 for the $175,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (gr. IIT) Nov. 12 at Churchill Downs.
In addition to 120-pound high weight Hungry Island, the Mrs. Revere drew Bizzy Caroline
, Groupie Doll
, Marketing Mix
, and Smart Sting
—all 3-year-old fillies with graded stakes victories this season. The 1 1/16-mile turf race has a scheduled post time of 4:37 p.m. EST.
Emory Hamilton’s Kentucky homebred Hungry Island was fourth to Winter Memories in the Sept. 17 Garden City (gr. IT) at Belmont Park in her last start, but was beaten only two lengths after rallying late. It snapped a four-race win streak for the daughter of More Than Ready
, who has steadily improved since breaking her maiden in May at Belmont Park.
Hungry Island has also notched wins in an optional claimer and the Recording Stakes at Belmont, and scored the Lake Placid (gr. IIT) at Saratoga by 2 1/2 lengths. Alex Solis was board for all of those wins, but Corey Nakatani will have the mount this time. They will break from the rail.
Catesby Clay’s homebred Bizzy Caroline has the advantage of having a graded stakes victory over the course. That came in the June 18 Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) when she came with a big late run to win by 2 1/4 lengths in her stakes debut. The Afleet Alex
filly was unplaced in two grade I tries after that, and last out was beaten a half-length when runner-up as the favorite in the Oct. 21 Valley View (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland.
Bizzy Caroline also shows a seven-length win over the Churchill Downs turf course in an allowance race in May. She will be ridden by Manny Cruz for trainer Ken McPeek.
Fred and Buff Bradley’s Groupie Doll was a hard-luck loser in the Oct. 22 Raven Run (gr. II) on the Keeneland Polytrack in her last start, but has clearly proved that she belongs with the top runners in the division. The homebred daughter of Bowman’s Band was beaten a head in the seven-furlong Raven Run when enduring a wide trip into the lane and just missing to Great Hot after a furious rally.
Groupie Doll, trained by Buff Bradley, was also runner-up in the Sept. 17 Charles Town Oaks. Her biggest victory came in the Gardenia Stakes (gr. III) at Ellis Park in August when defeating older horses. She was off the board in her only career turf race in June at Churchill.
Glen Hill Farm’s Marketing Mix has a couple of recent works at Churchill for trainer Tom Proctor. The Medaglia d'Oro
filly has yet to run a bad race since Proctor switched her to turf in July. She won a stakes at Woodbine, then scored the grade III Pucker Up at Arlington Park in September. In her grade I debut last out, Marketing Mix was second by just over a length to Together in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland. Julien Leparoux will have the call for the first time.
Stronach Stable’s homebred Smart Sting ships in from Woodbine for Roger Attfield after romping by 3 1/2 lengths in the Sept. 25 Selene (Can-III) on Polytrack. The Smart Strike
filly was runner-up in the Ontario Colleen (Can-IIIT) prior to that, and was third in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill in May.
