Grade I winner Courageous Cat has been retired from racing and will enter stud at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky. The 5-year-old son of Storm Cat will stand for $10,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
Farish purchased an interest in Courageous Cat from his breeders/owners, Martin and Pam Wygod.
Courageous Cat, who finished unplaced after a troubled trip in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) at Churchill Downs Nov. 5, was retired with six wins and five placings from 15 races and career earnings of $1,165,760.
Courageous Cat won this year’s Shoemaker Mile Stakes (gr. IT) and Poker Stakes (gr. IIIT) and ran second in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (Can-IT), beaten a neck. During his career, he also captured the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga and the Canadian Turf Stakes (gr. IIIT). As a 3-year-old, he finished a half-length behind Goldikova in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Mile in a runner-up effort.
Courageous Cat is out of the grade I-winning Rahy mare Tranquility Lake and is a full brother to grade I winner After Market , who stands at Lane’s End, and Dubai group II winner Jalil.
