Gone Astray to Stand at Northwest in Florida

Gone Astray  , a grade II winner and millionaire, will enter stud in 2012 for a fee of $4,500 at Northwest Stud near Ocala, Fla. The 5-year-old son of Dixie Union exited racing with 14 top three finishes from 21 starts and earnings of $1,125,162.

Racing as a Phipps Stable homebred, Gone Astray put together consecutive scores in 2009 in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II) and the Ohio Derby (gr. II). He placed in four stakes that year, including the Discovery Handicap (gr. I) and the Withers Stakes (gr. III). In 2010, he captured the Salvator Mile Stakes (gr. III) and placed in three stakes.

Gone Astray is out of the Mr. Prospector mare Illicit, whose half sister Smuggler and dam, Inside Information, are champions.
