Trainer John Sadler said that dual grade I winner Switch will be entered in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) following her quick five-furlong drill at Churchill Downs Oct. 30.
C R K Stable’s 4-year-old was pre-entered in the the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (gr. I) as well. Switch finished second in last year's Filly & Mare Sprint at Churchill.
Following the renovation break at Churchill, the Quiet American filly breezed five furlongs in 1:00 1/5 under exercise rider Edwin Orozco. It was the second-fastest of 33 at the distance. Fractions for the work were :12, :24, and :36, with a six-furlong gallop-out in 1:14 1/5.
Switch began and completed her workout as Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) contender Uncle Mo was putting in a five-furlong move of his own. Switch was about a sixteenth of a mile behind and posted a better time than the colt.
“I was happy with the work,” said Sadler, who has seen his contingent of Breeders' Cup hopefuls reduced to just Switch in recent days. “She is probably working better than last year when she ran in the (Filly & Mare) Sprint. That’s the race she will be entered in Monday.”
Switch finished 2 1/4 lengths behind Dubai Majesty in last year's seven-furlong race, her only prior appearance at Churchill.
She has worked twice over the track since finishing third in the Thoroughbred Club of America (gr. II) at Keeneland Oct. 8. Bred by Calumet Farm, the bay filly is out of the Nicholas mare Antoniette. She won the seven-furlong Santa Monica Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita in January, her lone victory in six starts in 2011.
Her lifetime mark stands at 5-6-4 in 17 races with earnings of $1,048,600.
