Pluck will resume his racing career Nov. 3 in the Commonwealth Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs, the site of his victory in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT).
The Team Valor International homebred, campaigned in partnership with Tom Simon’s Vinery, had been out of action since April when he was sidelined due to bruised cannon bones.
According to a Team Valor release, the son of More Than Ready had two months of rest in a paddock in Maryland. Radiographs reviewed June 27 by Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood & Riddle Veterinary Clinic near Lexington revealed that both cannon bones had healed, and Pluck was subsequently returned to conditioner Graham Motion at Fair Hill Training Center to resume training.
Julien Leparoux is booked to ride Pluck for the first time in the 1 1/16-mile Commonwealth, Churchill’s feature race Thursday, Nov. 3 during Breeders’ Cup week.
Pluck enters the race with a record of 3-0-1 from seven starts, for earnings of $727,290.
