Mr. Bowling, the lone stakes winner in a field of seven juveniles, will carry top weight of 120 pounds in the $100,000 Iroquois (gr. III) on opening day of the Churchill Downs fall meet Oct. 30.
A homebred of Brereton Jones and trained by Larry Jones, Mr. Bowling will carry two pounds more than the rest of the field in the one-mile contest, thanks to his victory in the Oct. 8 Dover Stakes at Delaware Park. The son of
Istan out of the Irish Tower mare Goldilock’s Bear rolled by more than seven lengths as the even-money favorite in that last race.
Mr. Bowling, who broke his maiden at second asking in August at Delaware, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Rajiv Maragh.
The other last-out winner in the field is
Seven Lively Sins, a
Stormy Atlantic colt trained by Al Stall Jr. Seven Lively Sins went wire-to-wire in a maiden special weight victory Oct. 7 on the Keeneland Polytrack, scoring by 1 3/4 lengths under Julien Leparoux as the favorite. He was third in his debut at Saratoga in August. Leparoux will stay aboard.
Silverton Hill’s Fine had the misfortune of running into the Breeders’ Cup-bound
Hansen in the Sept. 24 Kentucky Cup Juvenile at Turfway Park, as he finished second by 13 1/4 lengths. The
Flatter colt broke his maiden in his second try at Hoosier Park in August for trainer Bret Calhoun.
Lantern Hill Farm’s Motor City was third in the Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. III) two starts back. Trained by Ian Wilkes, Motor City finished eighth in the Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity (gr. I) at Keeneland in his most recent start. Regular rider Calvin Borel has the call on the son of
Street Sense .
Owned and trained by Scooter Dickey, Purely Determined was third in the Garden City Stakes at Monmouth Park Oct. 2, one start after taking a $50,000 maiden claimer over that track. The son of
Pure Prize was eighth in his debut at Churchill back in June.
