Official BC Race Order Reflects Some Changes
The official race order for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs indicates some changes from the tentative order released several weeks ago.
The changes occur Nov. 5, the second day of the event. A panel of racing directors and racing secretaries met Oct. 25 to discuss the race order after pre-entries were taken the previous day.
The $2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) is now the 10th race on the Saturday program rather than the ninth race. It will come just before the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I).
The $3 million Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT), originally slotted as the ninth race, will go as the eighth race. The $2 million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) has been shifted from race seven to race nine, and the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is now the seventh race instead of the ninth race.
“Due to the heightened international interest in Goldikova’s quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile, we believe that moving the Mile to later in Saturday’s program will provide a fitting tribute to this extraordinary challenge,” Breeders’ Cup president and chief executive officer Craig Fravel said in an Oct. 26 statement. “Given the Triple Crown implications of the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, we also believe that placing this race later in the program puts the spotlight on next year’s potential stars going into their 3-year-old campaigns.”
Here is the official race order for both days of the World Championships:
Friday, Nov. 4 (all post times EDT)
Race 1: Allowance, 2 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 5 (all post time EDT)
Race 1: Allowance, 12:05 p.m.
