A smaller horse population as its 2011 meet nears an end was cited for cancellation of live racing Oct. 27 at Thistledown.

“Trainers who entered for Thursday will have the option to re-enter for Friday (Oct. 28),” racing secretary Bill Couch said. “Taking the breather will help us maximize our field size for the remaining seven days of live racing.”

Thistledown, located near Cleveland, Ohio, races Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with post time at 1:50 p.m. EDT. The 2011 meet ends Nov. 5.

Beulah Park near Columbus will be the lone Thoroughbred track to race in the state after Thistledown closes. The Beulah Park meet began in early October and runs through early May 2012.
