Trempolino, winner of the 1987 Trusthouse Forte Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) and second in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) to Theatrical, has been retired from stallion duty at age 27 at Haras du Mezeray in France, according to the Racing Post.

Trempolino, who began his stallion career at Gainesway Farm near Lexington, has sired numerous major winners among his 64 stakes winners. They include French champion Dernier Empereur,  Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) winner Snow Polina, Queen Anne Stakes (Eng-I) winner Valixir, and 125 Grosser Preis von Baden (Ger-I) winner Germany. His runners have earned more than $50 million.

As a broodmare sire, Trempolino is represented such prominent winners as Breeders’ Cup winners Action This Day   (Juvenile, gr. I), Round Pond (Distaff, gr. I), and Chamberlain Bridge (Turf Sprint, gr. IIT). Action This Day was named champion 2-year-old male.

Trempolini, who raced for Paul de Moussac, is by Sharpen Up, who stood at Gainesway, and is out of the Viceregal mare Trephine.
