The speedy multiple graded stakes winner Flashpoint has been retired from racing due to a torn suspensory in his front leg, according to Peachtree Stable head John Fort.

The son of Pomeroy  —Two Punch Lil, by Two Punch, raced exclusively in 2011, when the 3-year-old won three of seven starts and earned $271,450. Bred in Florida by Silverleaf Farms, Flashpoint not only broke his maiden at first asking in mid-January at Aqueduct, he won the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) by 7 1/4 lengths in just his second trip to the post. He covered seven furlongs that day in 1:22.03.

He ran fourth in his next start in the Florida Derby (gr. I), then was unplaced in the Preakness (gr. I) before taking the Jersey Shore Stakes (gr. III) by seven lengths, going six furlongs in 1:08.73.

"He is the fastest horse Peachtree has ever owned," Fort noted. "He has a big heart. This is an injury he could come back from, but we have decided to stop on him. He is sound and happy."

Stud plans are undecided.
