Marine Sgt. Dakota Meyer, who was awarded the Medal of Honor last month, will be the guest of honor at Keeneland’s Military Family Day on Sunday, Oct. 23.
Keeneland and Windstream Communications, which partners with the race track each meet to recognize the military, each will donate $5,000 to Meyer’s “Challenge to America” initiative to raise $1 million for scholarships for children of Marines.
Meyer, 23, of Columbia, Ky., is the first living recipient from the Marine Corps to receive the Medal of Honor, the country’s highest award for valor, for actions during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Meyer, who will also present a trophy to one of the winners at Keeneland Oct. 23, now serves in the inactive reserve.
All members of the military and their families receive free admission with a military ID at any gate.
