Trainer Larry Jones has arrived at Keeneland Racecourse to oversee the training of Horse of the Year candidate Havre de Grace as the 4-year-old filly prepares for the Nov. 5 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.
The daughter of Saint Liam owned by Fox Hill Farm had been stabled at Keeneland for about a week while her trainer remained with his division at Delaware Park. Havre de Grace won the Woodward Stakes (gr. I) over males and the Beldame Invitational (gr. I) against other fillies in her two most recent efforts.
Jones will be aboard Havre de Grace Oct. 11 when she goes to the track at around 6:50 a.m. and said the filly is likely to have one workout at Keeneland, about 12 days prior to the Classic, meaning around Oct. 25.
“She’s going to breeze at least once here if she’s handling the track good, and Robert said she acts like she likes it,” said Jones, referring to Robert Kline, who has been galloping Havre de Grace in his absence.
After taking care of his horses earlier in the day, Jones was scheduled to be part of at the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association’s 2011 Pedigree & Conformation Clinic in the afternoon.
