Rapid Redux in his 17th win.

Rapid Redux can move to within one win of the modern day record for consecutive victories when he faces a starter allowance field on the night of Oct. 14 at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

The 5-year-old Rapid Redux ran his string to 17 successive races with his front-running win at Charles Town Sept. 16. He trails only Pepper’s Pride and Zenyatta, who each won 19 straight.

Rapid Redux faces seven opponents in a 1 1/8-mile heat for horses 3 and up that have not started for a claiming price of $5,000 or less in 2010-11. The race, the eighth on the program with a probable post of 10:25 p.m. EDT, carries a $25,000 purse.

During his streak Rapid Redux has won on seven different track, been ridden by seven different jockeys, and raced at seven different distances. Trainer David Wells believes Charles Town’s three-turn 1 1/8 mile distance is what suits his horse the best.

Jockey J.D. Acosta, aboard Rapid Redux for more wins than any other rider during the streak, once again has the call.

Rapid Redux is owned by Robert Cole Jr., who claimed him for $6,500 last year. The chestnut son of Pleasantly Perfect  --Thiscatsforcarly, by Storm Cat, is 23-for-37 lifetime with earnings of $306,144. He has won 15 starts in 2011.

Among those who will try and deny Rapid Redux his 18th straight win are Smiling Jordan, who was second to Rapid Redux in his last start, Fort Erie shipper Working Man Blues, and Valid Venture, owner of consecutive blowout wins against $5,000 claiming company at Mountaineer.
