Robert Cole Jr.’s Rapid Redux won't continue his assault on the North American record for consecutive victories Sept. 30 at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort.

The 5-year-old Pleasantly Perfect   gelding trained by David Wells was scratched, Wells said the afternoon of Sept. 30. The Mountaineer dirt surface is expected to be muddy.

Rapid Redux, with 17 consecutive victories, is two victories away from tying the modern North American record for consecutive wins held by Zenyatta and Peppers Pride, both mares. He last raced Sept. 16 in a similar starter allowance event at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, also in West Virginia.

A field of eight was entered at Mountaineer Sept. 30 in the $14,900, one-mile starter allowance for horses that have started for a claiming price of $5,000 or less in 2010-11.

Charles Town has carded a starter $5,000 event at 1 1/8 miles Oct. 14. The purse is $25,000; officials there have lobbied for Rapid Redux to return there to race.
