Leading handicap horse Tizway   was back on the work tab Sept. 27 at Saratoga after missing last week’s scheduled training due to a fever.

The 6-year-old son of Tiznow   breezed five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 Tuesday morning on a fast Oklahoma training track, the best of six works on the day. Trainer Jimmy Bond confirmed that Tizway will not be entered in the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) Oct. 1 at Belmont Park and will train up to the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) Nov. 5.

“We didn’t ask anything from him; just wanted to test the waters,” Bond said of the work. “Everything looked good to me, knock on wood. He cooled out well and jumped in his feed tub afterward. We were elated to see him get back to work.”

Owned by William Clifton Jr., Tizway would have been the favorite in the JCGC after posting consecutive grade I wins in the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont and Whitney Handicap at Saratoga. He has a 7-1-5 record from 20 starts and earnings of $1,359,274.

Tizway will remain at Saratoga and stay on a regular seven-day work schedule.
