Retama Park received approval Sept. 21 from the Texas Racing Commission to add six nights of live racing to its 2011 Thoroughbred meeting.

The three additional weekends extend the current meet through Breeder’s Cup Day Nov. 5. Retama Park requested the extension as part of a plan to remove four Thursday nights from the current schedule while adding six nights of weekend racing.
“This makes economic sense for the track and it provides our horsemen more racing opportunities. It also gives horsemen a place to train following the closing of our 2011 live meet and Sam Houston opening in January,” said Retama CEO Bryan Brown.
The TRC also approved Retama Park’s request for the 2012 live racing calendar. The 2012 Quarter Horse meet is scheduled to run 20 nights from June 8 to Aug. 11.The 2012 Thoroughbred meet is scheduled to run 26 nights from Oct. 5 to Dec. 29.
