Fasig-Tipton will conduct its Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training next year later than usual. The auction is scheduled for March 26 at the Palm Meadows Training Center near Boynton Beach. The under tack show will be held March 23.
This year, the Fasig-Tipton auction was the first of the major select juvenile auctions on the calendar with its March 3 date. Next year, it will follow the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March select sale March 13 and 14 in Central Florida and the Barretts March select auction March 20 in Southern California. Keeneland's select sale is set for April 9.
OBS didn't conduct its February select juvenile sale this year and it isn't scheduled for 2012.
“After our inaugural sale there (Palm Meadows) last year, our buyers and consignors alike gave very high marks to the facilities and location of Palm Meadows, and we loved the enthusiasm for the project from the entire team there,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. “There has been a steady shift over the last few years in most 2-year-old racing programs, with the tracks pushing back juvenile races to later dates in their calendars. Finding a window for our sale in late March is a logical move to reflect these circumstances. We will also move the sale from a Thursday spot to a Monday, which allows us to avoid any conflicts with live racing at Gulfstream Park.”
