Benjamin Leon Jr.’s Besilu Stables purchased an Unbridled's Song filly (Hip No. 941) from the Dromoland Farm consignment for $1.3 million, making her the first of two seven-figure purchases made during the Sept. 15 session of the Keeneland September yearling sale.

The filly, produced from the Storm Bird mare Lady of Choice, is a half sister to multiple grade III winner Multiple Choice and to the stakes-placed mare Proposal, the dam of three stakes winners.

The purchase price was unusual for the fifth session of the yearling auction, in which the top-priced offerings are usually sold during the first two days. On Sept. 13, the second of the two selected sessions, Leon purchased a Bernardini   filly for $1.2 million.

As he has stated previously, Leon said his latest acquisition fits with his program of primarily purchasing well-bred fillies that can be added to his broodmare band upon retirement.

“It is very difficult to fault her,” said Leon, listing the filly’s attributes. “The bone, the tracking, the walk, the size, the strength, how she’s put together. Obviously, she has a very, very good pedigree. When we find something that fits our program and is so very special it is difficult to let it go.”
