A Medaglia d'Oro —Violent Beauty, by Gone West, colt (Hip No. 469) was purchased by Black Rock Stable for $600,000 from the Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency consignment during the third session of the Keeneland September yearling sale Sept. 13.
Agent Hanzly Albina signed the ticket on behalf of Steven Marshall, who has campaigned El Camino Real (gr. III) winner Silver Medallion under the Black Rock banner. The colt, whose third dam is champion older mare Sky Beauty, was bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm.
“He’s a great looking horse and had the right pedigree,” Albina said.
Albina, who along with Nick Sallusto, represent Marshall, said the goal for the relative newcomer to the horse industry is to the win the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). “Just like anybody else, we want to win the Kentucky Derby,” Albina said.
Albina said Marshall owns about a half-dozen horses, including three yearlings purchased at the Keeneland sale. Noting the recent downturn in bloodstock prices, Albina said, “We feel like we’re getting in at the right time.”
